A vacancy exists to join our manufacturing engineering team in Welshpool, Powys providing state of the art manufacturing equipment and processes used in the production of microcontroller based power electronics products. The role offers exciting project based work in software and hardware design for automated test and inspection machines, robotics, artificial intelligence, new product introduction and production process design.

The ideal candidate will have

  • HNC or Degree in an engineering or technology discipline
  • Significant experience of technical aspects of electronics products
  • Experience in software programming and CAD packages and ideally
    • NI Labview
    • Solidworks

Product Technician / Engineer

Successful applicants will be skilled in the manufacture and repair of complex electronic products and will have experience of working within fast moving, team focused, production processes.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in Product Management and will play a key role in helping to grow the product portfolio to support the company’s ambitious expansion plans.

Working as part of the Sales & Marketing team the role will involve:

  • Managing the technical and commercial aspects of a product range or ranges
  • Producing product specification documentation, and working with customers to agree the content
  • Managing the project through to final production, ensuring that the final product matches the intended spec

Reporting to the Service Manager your role will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Repair of AC drives to component level and retest to ensure full functionality.
  • Liaising with customers via telephone and email to resolve Service related issues.
  • Analysis of completed Service Request Forms.
  • Repair data entry.
  • When required, visit customer sites around the world to resolve Service related issues.

  • Ideally qualified to a minimum of HNC in Electronics or equivalent.

3D CAD Industrial Designer

Invertek Drives is a rapidly growing global organisation, dedicated to developing and manufacturing cutting edge technologies for integration into future generations of our world renowned Optidrive product range.

Based at our Welshpool Head Office and within the Innovation department, Invertek Drives is seeking to appoint an Industrial Designer to join our small but highly motivated E-CAD/M-CAD design team.

We are looking for a talented, self-motivated and enthusiastic designer with 3+ years' experience. The successful candidate will be part of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, designing industrial electronic products from concept to production and will be involved in the entire life cycle of a product. The ideal candidate will have an engineering background, knowledge of manufacturing processes with emphasis on injection moulding, the ability to comprehend new technologies, visualise solutions to technical problems and to communicate these solutions across departments and with suppliers. Good presentation and communication skills are therefore required. Applicants for this role must be competent SolidWorks users with surface modelling and rendering experience.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Design of enclosures and mechanisms for industrial products, applying problem solving skills to help develop and expand our current range of innovative products.
  • Support Design Engineers in the development and ongoing improvement of new and existing products. Using external and in-house rapid prototyping methods to produce representative models/
  • Investigate, identify and implement practical solutions to optimize Form Fit and Function of new and existing mechanical assemblies.
  • Liaise with toolmakers/suppliers involving occasional overseas travel
  • Produce graphical images and high-resolution renders
  • Keep up to date with research and industry best practices.

Essential skills and qualifications:

  • Engineering Degree in Product Design, Industrial Design or Engineering Design with relevant industry experience, preferably including industrial electronic products.
  • Must have strong written, verbal and visual presentation skills including concept sketching.
  • Very strong knowledge of SolidWorks, PhotoView 360 and PDM.
  • Competent in the use of Adobe graphic design software
  • Must have a good knowledge of materials properties, their applications and manufacturing processes including plastic injection moulding and die casting.
  • Strong experience and knowledge of DFM.
  • Must have a portfolio with clear demonstration of design methodology

Reporting to the Product Integrity Manager your role will include, but not limited to:-

  • Drive type testing to validate new designs.
  • Producing detailed reports.
  • Building prototype and NPI PCBs, drives and assemblies.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A background in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with experience and knowledge of AC Drives.
  • Ideally qualified BTEC (or higher), undergoing qualification in Electronic Engineering or the prerequisites to do so.
  • Good IT skills: Excel and word are essential.
  • Good organisation skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
