Environmental Product Declaration sets new transparency standard for Invertek

Invertek Drives has successfully completed a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for its Optidrive Coolvert variable frequency drives, resulting in the publication of an internationally recognised Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).

Invertek’s Compliance Team worked with Sustainability Consultants, Tunley Environmental, to undertake a rigorous cradle-to-grave lifecycle assessment of the Size 4 Optidrive Coolvert VFD.

The LCA assessed the environmental impacts of every stage of the product’s lifecycle by using a number of modules designed to cover each element individually. The analysis included the manufacturing of raw materials, packaging and ancillary products, combustion of fuels for transportation, installation, product use, maintenance, and what happens when the product reaches the end of its useful life.

“The EPD reinforces Invertek’s commitment to environmental stewardship and provides customers with transparency regarding the environmental footprint of our technology,” comments Compliance Manager Stephanie Walton. “As global industries transition toward a Net Zero future, data is the most valuable tool for progress. The LCA mapped every stage of the product’s life and serves as a verified, standardised ‘environmental nutrition label’ - making it easier for our partners to make informed, sustainable procurement decisions.”

Working with a credible third party ensured that the data used was accurate, objective, and compliant with international ISO standards. The LCA also provided insights which Invertek can use to further optimise its manufacturing processes to ensure its VFDs remain the most efficient choice for both energy consumption and environmental impact.

Stephanie continues, “At Invertek, sustainability isn't just about the energy our drives save during operation; it's about the total impact we leave on the planet.

“Optidrive Coolvert VFDs are widely used in HVAC and refrigeration applications around the world - this industry is growing exponentially and provides significant opportunities for energy efficient motor control using variable frequency drives. By achieving this EPD for the Coolvert series, we are giving our customers the transparency they need to help meet their own ESG goals.

“This achievement is just the beginning of Invertek's journey toward a fully transparent and sustainable supply chain, ensuring that our drives continue to contribute to a ‘Cooler Planet’ in every sense.”

The EPD covers all variants in Optidrive Coolvert range which includes power ratings from 1.5 kW to 40 kW, single-phase and three-phase input options, heatsink and coldplate versions, and frame sizes 2 to 5. The representative reference product is the Size 4 model (CV-440580-3FHE, 30 kW / 40 HP, 380-480 V ±10%, 3-phase, 58 A). The most common configuration is the three-phase input with heatsink or coldplate technology.

Invertek Drives’ comprehensive EPD can be downloaded from the Policy Documents section on its website, as well as the International EPD® System database.
