Invertek Drives’ Optidrive P2 technology is playing a central role in modernising the production facilities of ROLOFOL a.s., one of the Czech Republic’s leading producers of stretch films for the packaging industry.
Two Optidrive P2 variable frequency drives (VFDs) 110kW, have been installed to replace outdated competitor drives on a stretch film extrusion line first commissioned in 2005. The investment marks a significant step in ROLOFOL’s long-term programme to upgrade its production equipment and secure reliable, efficient operations for the future.
Extrusion is at the heart of film production. The extruder drives control the screw mechanisms that melt and shape the plastic, while the winding drives ensure the finished film is precisely rolled. Any failure in these systems risks disrupting production, reducing efficiency, and compromising film quality.
ROLOFOL a.s., founded in 1997, has grown into one of the Czech Republic’s largest producers of stretch films, supplying packaging solutions to a wide range of sectors including logistics, food, and manufacturing. Its films are used by customers throughout Central and Western Europe, making the reliability of its production lines a top priority.
ROLOFOL’s existing drives had become increasingly difficult for its maintenance team to repair, with spare parts harder to source and breakdowns creating risks to the company’s 24/7 production schedule. A reliable and modern replacement was urgently required to ensure continuity of supply to customers across Europe.
Invertek Drives supplied two Optidrive P2 VFDs to power the extruder screws:
- 2 × 110kW P2 drives for extruder screws
The Optidrive P2 was selected for its high-performance torque and speed control, robust design suited to heavy-duty industrial applications, and clear TFT display that simplifies operation and monitoring.
The project took place in one of the most competitive markets for extrusion drives, with global brands including ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric, and Yaskawa also considered. ROLOFOL ultimately chose Invertek due to its ability to meet tight deadlines, maintain clear communication, and deliver a solution that balanced performance with value.
Graham Swann, Sales Manager at Invertek Drives, said: “Packaging producers like ROLOFOL rely on continuous, high-quality output to meet growing demand. Our Optidrive P2 drives are designed for heavy-duty applications like extrusion, offering precise control, reliability, and ease of use. We’re proud to support ROLOFOL with a solution that keeps their production moving.”
A spokesperson for ROLOFOL a.s. said: “We needed a reliable replacement for our older extrusion drives. Invertek provided not only the right technology but also the speed, communication, and flexibility that gave us confidence in the project. Meeting deadlines was essential for us, and Invertek delivered.”
The successful renovation of the 2005 extrusion line is part of a broader strategy of continuous improvement at ROLOFOL. The company has already confirmed that another extrusion line, commissioned in 2007, is scheduled for modernisation with Invertek Drives technology in the near future.
The collaboration highlights how advanced motor control solutions can help packaging manufacturers maintain efficiency and competitiveness in a demanding global market.
