The new robust and powerful Size 8 IP20 and IP55 Optidrive VFDs are capable of controlling electric motors rated up to 480A

Invertek Drives has launched new high-powered variable frequency drive in both the Optidrive P2 and Optidrive Eco ranges with an IP55 / NEMA 12 enclosure for direct mounting and IP20 for control cabinet mounting.

They are capable of accurately controlling electric motors rated up to 480 Amps with a power rating up to 250kW / 400HP. They replace the existing Size 8 which was only available for control cabinet mounting with IP20 protection.

The new range also adds DNV marine certification, in addition to a built-in EMC filter to meet Category C3 with a factory fit option to upgrade to a high-performance EMC filter that meets Category C2. They also come with high-definition TFT displays as standard.

The IP20 and IP55 / NEMA 12 both have an ambient operating temperature up to 50˚C and conform to UL, cUL, EAC and RCM, in addition to DNV.

Kes Beech, Technical Manager at Invertek Drives, said they were responding to increasing demand for energy efficient drives capable of controlling power-hungry applications in increasingly demanding environments.

“The P2 and Eco drives are already used in a wide range of global industries. We’ve launched the new Size 8 to meet the growing demand for more powerful and precise electric motor control. The addition of the IP55 enclosure to the range provides a direct mounted option, opening up a host of new opportunities,” he said.

Robust, powerful and easy to use

“Reliability, ease of use, and energy efficiency are all synonymous with our Optidrive range. This is replicated in the new Size 8 which opens up a range of new opportunities and are available through our global sales network.”

The Optidrive P2 is designed for high-performance applications including mixers, extruders, conveyors, cranes and hoists. It can provide up to 200% torque from zero speed, ensuring reliable starting and accurate speed control under all load conditions. The Optidrive Eco is now commonplace in controlling fans, pumps and compressors and is widely used in HVAC-R and the water industry around the world.

In each application the Optidrive’s precise motor control allows for greater energy efficiencies and associated cost savings, as well as resulting in less motor and pump wear and tear and downtime.

Specification includes a built-in choke, built-in keypad and multi-language, high-definition TFT display as standard. They can be used with the OptiTools Studio PC software for set-up, commissioning and control, as well as OptiTools Mobile for smartphone and tablet communication.
